Feature Interview - David Andrew Macdonald divulges just how much Edmund will darken Springfield

Back In Black

Something wicked this way comes, but its much worse than the leftover goblins of All Hallows Eve: GUIDING LIGHTs Edmund is back in town! But how much trouble can the former prince of San Cristobel possibly cause? Judging from his laundry list of misdeeds (which includes, but is not limited to, hiding Beths identity from Philip, stalking Harley, kidnapping numerous people from Cassie to Michelle Bauers baby, attempting to kill Cassie and attempting to kill Revafour times!), were guessing the damage he inflicts will be enough to rock the Spaulding mansion. But with a short return of only four weeks, which Springfield residents will he target? Edmunds portrayer, David Andrew Macdonald, opens up on just what tricks the towns returning villain may have up his sleeve.

Object of His Deadly Affection
Though Edmund was once married to Beth, its her enemy-recently-turned-best friend Cassie that Edmund is really seeking. Theres always Beth, Macdonald muses. But something that unfortunately has been forgotten about is that Edmunds real focus in the world originally was around his brother, Richard. Now that Richard is dead, his focus is really all about Cassie. I genuinely cant imagine that him coming back has anything to do with anything other than trying to somehow get Cassie. And I would imagine, being a soap opera, its to try to get her to fall in love with him again.
Coming from the man who knows just how dastardly his character can get, its safe to assume that Edmund will definitely make Joshs heaven a living hell! And further, Macdonald admits that nothing will stop Edmund from getting what he wants (well, except maybe his bad aim, which we know prevented Edmund from murdering Reva the few times he tried!). I dont think anything would stand in the way of him trying to win Cassie back, the actor says. I mean, my God! He stole a baby and left the mother to die on the side of the road. Once you do that, I think pretty much the sky is the limit.

Holiday Horror
While the knowledge of what dread Edmund will bring to Cassie and Joshs holidays remains a mystery to the actor, he does know that once his short GH stint is over, hell still be getting plenty of opportunity to meddle with peoples Christmas spirits this year. Ill be going back to the theater at the end of November to do a rather fun, tight, eight-person-ensemble production of A Christmas Carol, Macdonald says. I dont know my character yet for sure, but I get the feeling Im going to be something like Jacob Marley and the Ghost of Christmas Present, which would be fun. If I could play anyone, Id want o play the Ghost of Christmas Present. Ive always liked him; he was generous and yet dangerous. He took no prisoners.
Just go wherever you can to see a big, glorious production of A Christmas Carol, and then come out and see ours, which will be sort of eight people spinning madly around the stage! Same identical story that makes everyone cry, but it will be a lot more fun and wild!
Though Macdonald considers himself a theater performer at heart, and actually prefers stage work to most television work, he says he does feel lucky to get the chance to take a break from theater so he can come back to GL and flesh out Edmund. Its a great gig, he exclaims. If youre going to get with any long-running show, there isnt one thats been running longer than GL. Its a show that deserves to stay on the air, and if they think that one of the good ways of doing it is bringing back an old character here and there, then thats a great thing.

On One of His Fave GL Castmates:It was always a lot of fun working with Beth Chamberlin (Beth). She and I just spent most of our time cracking each other up; wed just be laughing too hard to work!

On Edmunds Last Hope:
Everyone hates Edmund so much, but you never really know what Cassie thought.

On The Return of the Dead:Edmunds brother Richard is a ghost, but hes still lurking in the background somewhere. Hes been chopped up, and his heart was given to Rick Bauer, so you could pretty much be certain hes dead. But that doesnt mean these people dont come back!

On Edmunds Connection To Olivia:There are a number of people Edmund is connected to, but there was always the question of their history. Olivia and Edmund were brought on to the show at the same time to introduce the character of Richard.

FYI:
Birthday: June 1
